Clearwater Main Library to Host Anime Con for Teens

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Main Library 100 N. Osceola Ave., will host a Friday, Aug. 8 anime con for teens from noon to 4:30 p.m.

The free event, Clearwater Toshocon, is from the Japanese word for ‘library.’ Anime, a form of cartooning and story writing, got its start in Japan and has gained popularity among teens in the U.S. in recent years. From anime vendors to expert panels and activities, the cultural phenomenon that has developed around the art form will be featured at Toshocon. Attendees can look for:

• Presentation by E.D.C. Johnson, author of Moonflower

• All-day anime screenings, courtesy of FUNimation

• A costume contest

• Free digital photos for great costumes

• DIY Origami Station

• Information about Clearwater’s sister city, Nagano, Japan

• Expert panels that will cover rediscoving the classics, the best anime you’ve never heard of and cosplay props by Suncoast Ghostbusters

More information is available by calling (727) 562-4970 or by visiting the library’s website at myclearwater.com/cpl.
