Intersection of U.S. 19 and Harn Boulevard to Close Permanently

Clearwater, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Transportation will permanently close the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Harn Boulevard Friday night, Aug. 15. Concrete barriers will be placed along the inside of the northbound and southbound frontage roads where through-traffic is currently being maintained. The intersection will become right-turn only for turning movements from all directions. Message boards are in place to notify motorists and pedestrians of this change.

The closing of Harn Boulevard is a critical step in getting the new mainline U.S. Highway 19 built and open throughout the full length of the project. The contractorís next major milestone date is mid-October. At that time, traffic will be shifted onto the new lanes on U.S. 19. The most significant benefit of this configuration is that all signals on the U.S. 19 main roadway within the project limits will be removed. This step will create a signal-free corridor on U.S. 19 between Republic Drive/Hammock Park Boulevard in Clearwater and Mainlands Boulevard in Pinellas Park.
