Clearwater Celebrates Drinking Water Week

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The City of Clearwater, in partnership with the American Water Works Association (AWWA), kicks off Drinking Water Week from May 4 to 10, 2014. This national event celebrates one of the world's most precious natural resources.

Water systems are critical to maintaining public health, economic vitality, fire protection, and communities. Water is essential to daily life, and Clearwater’s water service is a convenience that sometimes can be taken for granted until main breaks or boil water events occur.

Clearwater’s water utility professionals proactively invest in the city's water system as a smart, safe, common sense investment that will pay off for generations to come. By working together, customers and water providers can ensure that local water sources remain available for decades to come.

"Drinking Water Week provides an opportunity for all of us to pause and consider the immeasurable value that a safe, reliable water supply plays in our daily lives," said Tracy Mercer, Director of Clearwater Public Utilities. "We have some of the highest quality water that is neither limitless nor without expense, and this week we can all celebrate that achievement and remind ourselves not to take it for granted."

For more than 35 years, AWWA has celebrated Drinking Water Week, an opportunity for both water professionals and local residents to join together to recognize the critical role water plays in daily life.
