Emergency Medical Services Week is May 19-25

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The theme for this year’s EMS Week is “One Mission. One Team.” The number one mission of the EMS team is to take every measure to ensure health and safety, not just for EMS Week, but throughout the year.

“Our EMS workers provide treatment to those in need of urgent medical care and treat the presenting conditions until the patient reaches the next point of care, usually a hospital emergency room,” said Clearwater’s Fire Division Chief Richard Riley. “The work they do is often recognized as heroic but they have other responsibilities as well.”

EMS workers and the United States Fire Administration recommend everyone have a comprehensive fire protection plan that includes smoke alarms, residential sprinklers, and a home fire escape plan that they practice.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue has eight fire stations staffed by 201 employees and responds to more than 25,000 calls each year.
