August Programs at Clearwater Aging Well Center Culminate with Personal Safety Day

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clearwater Aging Well Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road in the Long Center, will host an Aug. 30 crime prevention and personal safety day in collaboration with the Clearwater Police Department. All ages are encouraged to attend as the information presented applies to everyone.

The free program is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., includes speakers from the Clearwater Police Department and will cover neighborhood crime trends, knowing the difference between burglary and robbery, economic crimes and pawn shops. Attendees can visit interactive stations that offer information and common-sense prevention tips such as engraving your valuables with a unique identifier, installing floodlights where appropriate and other helpful safety measures.

Additional featured programs during August are:

Intergenerational Art Programs: These art seminars connect Long Center middle school summer camp participants with older adults, resulting in a unique and creative perspective for both generations.

Creative Movement: Friday, Aug. 8, 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Dance specialist Jennifer Rosoff leads this intergenerational seminar highlighting the joy of storytelling and expression through movement. Free.

Wellness Wednesday – the 30-Day Heart Tune Up: Aug. 20, noon to 1 p.m. Steven Masely, MD, family medicine, is the author of Ten Years Younger and a PBS television presenter. He will discuss a plan to tune up your heart, increase your energy levels while decreasing your waistline and improving your sex life.

Therapy Dogs: Friday, Aug. 29, 1 to 2 p.m. The Clearwater Aging Well Center, in partnership with the Clearwater Police Department, hosts this program where attendees can meet and learn about the department’s therapy dogs that comfort victims and witnesses who have experienced traumatic events. Free.
